CGN Rudong H8# offshore wind farm is located in the east side of Rudong County, Jiangsu Province, with a sea area of 48km², and the farthest offshore area is over 85km, which is the farthest offshore wind farm in China. The wind farm has 65 wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 300MW, which is the largest single-unit capacity, the most complex geological conditions and the most difficult offshore wind farm to build. The wind farm is equipped with a 220kV offshore booster station, which is connected to the offshore converter station of the flexible DC transmission system by the AC cable, and then connected to the system grid by the onshore converter station after rectification.
After the wind farm is put into operation, the annual online power can reach 959.84 million kW-h, which can meet the electricity needs of 300,000 families for one year. Compared with thermal power of the same generation capacity, the annual consumption of standard coal can be reduced by about 296,000 tons, carbon dioxide emissions by 650,000 tons and fresh water by about 2.838 million m³, which will significantly improve the local ecological environment and help the development of green economy.
On May 18, 2020, the project completed the sinking of the first monopile foundation, marking the official start of construction of the wind farm. The wind farm innovatively adopts the key technology of offshore wind power "black start" to break through the problem of short commissioning period for grid connection, and complete the full capacity of grid connection within one month of power delivery. The wind farm attaches great importance to the protection of the natural environment, using measures such as increasing and releasing water, deploying seawater online monitoring equipment, and participating in shoreline remediation to fulfill its responsibility for environmental protection and minimize the impact of the project on the ecological environment.
The wind farm built Asia's first ±400kV flexible DC offshore transmission project, the world's largest capacity and highest voltage level offshore converter station, using the world's most cutting-edge ultra-high voltage DC transmission technology, filling a number of technical gaps in this field in China, to achieve the core equipment of the transmission and transformation system localization, intelligent, for China's deep-sea wind power development to play an important leading and demonstration role.
